Windows 11 basics: How to personalize your wallpaper or lock screen

You’ll want to personalize the look of your new laptop if you just bought it. Windows offers many options to customize what you see when opening up your device. You can select a color, a photo, or slideshow as your wallpaper. You can also choose a lock screen theme and choose a theme. Once you have access to your personalization settings, it’s easy and straightforward. How to do it:
Click on the Start button
Click on Settings

Select Personalization from the left-hand menu
You can make many design changes to your PC’s interface from here.
Change your wallpaper
Click on the Background bar. This will give you an idea of how your choices will look.
You can choose to use a photo, a slideshow, or a solid color wallpaper by using the drop-down menu at the right of Personalize Your Background Section
Below that will be several images you have recently used in case that you need to quickly return to one of them
If you prefer to use a photo from your own collection, click on the Browse photos button. Click on Choose image to select an image.
Click on the drop-down menu to choose a suitable fit for your desktop photo.
After you have chosen a fit, your wallpaper will be displayed behind the Settings window. Feel free to experiment to find what works best for you (and your photo).
You can choose a background color if the image isn’t large enough to fill the entire screen. Scroll down to “Choose a background color” and choose a color. If the image fills the entire screen, you won’t be able to see this option.
If you prefer a plain color background, choose Solid color from Personalize your background drop-down menu and then choose a color from tiles under Choose your background colour. You can also create your own color.
If you prefer a solid background, you can create a custom colour. Slideshow is the third option in the Personalize your Background menu. Click the Browse button to select the pictures that will be included in your slideshow. Next, choose a folder and click on Choose this folder. Slideshows allow you to display your favorite photos. To do this, click the Browse button to the right of Choose a picture album for a slideshow, then select a folder and then click on Choose this folder. Set a lock screen
Go to Personalization > Lock screen
You can also personalize the lock screen. Open up the drop-down menu beside Personalize your screen. There are three options available: Windows spotlight, Picture, or Slideshow.
Choose Picture to use a static image for your lock screen. Select an image by clicking the Browse photos button.

Slideshow can be used to create a slideshow that will play even if your device is locked. The Slideshow section will show you the folders that the slideshow will use. Click the Browse button to add a folder. Next, navigate to the folder that you want to select and click Choose this folder. Click on Remove to remove a folder.
Below that you’ll find Advanced slideshow settings. To adjust settings such as whether the screen is locked or turned off when it is idle, and whether a slideshow is played when your Windows is powered down, click on this link.
Advanced slideshow settings allow you to choose when and how you want to show photos. This feature will allow you to choose from a variety photos provided by Microsoft for your lockscreen. You can also indicate whether you like the image. Your feedback will be used for customizing the photos that follow. Windows spotlight allows you to view a variety Microsoft’s photos and your feedback will be used to customize which photos will appear on your lock screen. Click on the drop-down menu at the right of the Lock screen status bar to see the options. Select from a range of first-party apps to display their status on your lock screen. Choose from a range of apps that will display your status on the lock screen. Choose an accent color
Click on Personalization > Colours

Click on the drop-down menu to choose your mode. You can choose between Light or Dark modes. You can select Custom to choose different default colors for Windows and your apps.
You have two options: you can have the accent color applied automatically or you can select Manual from the drop-down menu next to Accent color. You have two options: the accent color can be applied automatically or you can choose Manual from the drop-down menu beside Accent color to apply it to other areas (e.g. the taskbar or borders).
You can customize your device with themes. You can either choose a theme that comes standard with your system, or you can get more from Microsoft Store.
You can find your current theme by going to Personalization > Themes.
You can adjust each feature individually by clicking on Background, Color and Sounds.
