The IRS will soon make you use facial recognition to access your taxes online

Starting this summer, the Internal Revenue Service will require anyone who has access to and pays their taxes online to sign up for a third-party facial recognition service (h/t Krebs on Security). Even people who have registered on IRS.gov and have a username or password, they will need to provide a government identification, a copy a utility bill and a selfie to ID.me. This Virginia-based identity verification company is also required. To sign up, you will need to take a video selfie using your webcam or mobile device. This could cause problems for those with older hardware or those who don’t have one.
