Summer Game Fest will be taking E3’s June slot

Summer Game Fest starts this year at 2PM ET / 11:00 PT. The live show will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, a “consummate videogame hype-man” as Ash Parrish described him. According to a press release the show will be streamed across all platforms, including YouTube, Twitch and Twitter. GameSpot notes that developers can submit their games to be considered for inclusion in the show. The show will be presented by Double Fine and Iam8bit, the studio behind Psychonauts and Grim Fandango. According to the SGF website, “stay tuned” for announcements of other partners who will be part of this show.
E3 is the elephant in this room. We heard earlier this year that the gaming convention had been canceled. It used to take place at the same time as Summer Game Fest, but it has become more common for the major game studios to hold their own press conferences and events. This year, it seems that this is the case. The Summer Game Fest website states that Microsoft will hold a Bethesda and Xbox games showcase on June 12th.
Keighley and others seem to be conscious of the changing landscape. Summer Game Fest was announced right as E3 was canceled. One person on Twitter joked that the fest would be named “Keigh3”. Summer Game Fest is the place to be if you are waiting for news about a game. Last year, we saw a trailer for Elden Ring gameplay and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
