Blizzard brings chaos to Warcraft mobile game

Blizzard has announced Warcraft Arclight Rumble, its new mobile Warcraft game. It is a free-to play action strategy mobile game that looks like a traditional Warcraft game but with a Hearthstone-looking tower defense twist. It allows players to choose from five types of Warcraft lore leaders to command their troops and “minis” in battle. You can play in both PvE or PvP modes. Players can earn gold to upgrade their minions and complete objectives such as defeating raid bosses.
The Warcraft Arclight Rumble first appeared in Blizzard’s quarterly earnings report in February. It is part of Blizzard’s push to make original content for mobile markets. This was accompanied by Diablo Immortaland joining Activision’s Call of Duty: Mobile, and King’s Candy Crush. Blizzard actually had two mobile games in mind for the Warcraft franchise. One was a take on the popular Pokemon Go. Jason Schreier, Bloomberg’s senior vice president of communications, tweeted that the game had been cancelled late last week.
Blizzard has shared a lot of updates over the past weeks about its tentpole properties. Last week, Diablo Immortal (a mobile version of the isometric-CRPG) was released on June 2nd. The latest World of Warcraft expansion Dragonflight, Overwatch 2, and the new World of Warcraft expansion Dragonflight were also announced.
The company’s rapid pace of announcements is hampered by the looming legal challenges it faces. These include uncertainty around CEO Bobby Kotick’s post-acquisition position and a pending union vote of the QA department at Raven Software. Microsoft is still considering buying the company, and shareholders voted to approve the transaction last Wednesday.
Pre-register now for Warcraft Arclight Rumble on Google Play or with the Apple App Store.
