Apple is known for its culture of secrecy. This culture is managed in no small measure by its head of communications. It’s been difficult to fill that role with Stella Low, previously Cisco’s PR chief, leaving the company after less than a year. According to Kara Swisher and BuzzFeed’s John Paczkowski, Kristin Huguet Quayle, a 15-year-old Apple veteran, Kristin Huguet Quayle will be taking over. BuzzFeed was informed by Apple that she has been promoted immediately as Low is leaving to spend more time with her children. Steve Dowling, the previous comms boss, left in September 2019. Apple then left the position open for almost two years before hiring Low last may. Phil Schiller, long-serving Apple marketing and App Store boss, reportedly stepped in.
Kristin Huguet Qayle, a long-serving @Apple PR exec (15+ years), will be taking over as VP Worldwide Comms. This is a huge job considering all the regulatory issues, products (hello AR glasses & self-driving cars) and metaverseness.

Apple was the most valuable publicly traded company in the world between Dowling and Low. It also became involved in the ongoing Epic v. Apple lawsuit and was subject to all sorts of scrutiny from antitrust enforcers and developers as well as its own employees.
Katie Cotton, Apple’s PR chief, was the one who set the tone for communications for 18 years. Apple was reportedly searching for a “friendlier and more approachable” successor to her position. I am curious to see if the company’s relationship will change with the media.
